site.btaJustice Minister Commits to Effective Implementation of New Legislation Protecting Domestic Violence Victims
Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev Friday met with Ana Gallego, Director-General for Justice and Consumer Affairs, in Warsaw during the first informal meeting of EU Justice and Home Affairs Ministers organized by the Polish EU Council Presidency, the Bulgarian Justice Ministry said. The Bulgarian official said the two reaffirmed the mutual trust and the commitments shared by the new Bulgarian government and the European Commission.
Georgiev and Gallego discussed judicial reforms related to Bulgaria's National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the EU's Annual Rule of Law Report.
Georgiev emphasized the need to enhance protection for citizens, particularly vulnerable groups such as victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. He said Bulgaria is focusing on the effective implementation of new legislation protecting domestic violence victims, which ensures easier access to legal aid. He also said the government is preparing actively for the application of the EU Directive on combating violence against women and domestic violence.
The discussion also covered key priorities of the Justice Ministry, including judicial efficiency, ensuring timely case resolution, and enhancing the quality and speed of forensic expertise.
On Thursday, Interior Minister Daniel Mitov took part in the informal meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council in Warsaw. The sessions focused on innovative solutions in migration management and on developing a new EU internal security strategy.
