Varna Municipality and the Ukrainian Embassy in Bulgaria will cooperate in the implementation of cultural projects, it became clear during a meeting between Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev and the Ukrainian Ambassador to Bulgaria Olesya Ilashchuk on Thursday. During the meeting possibilities for cooperation and the implementation of joint initiatives in Varna were discussed, as well as one of the embassy's proposals to hold a Bulgarian-Ukrainian business forum in the seaside city in the spring or after the summer season of 2025.

The idea is to involve not only companies and the chambers of commerce of the twin port cities of Varna and Odesa, but also the national chambers of commerce and industry, as there has been an increased interest on the part of Ukrainian business in investing in Varna after the start of the military conflict in Ukraine. The number of joint Bulgarian-Ukrainian projects is also increasing, Ilashchuk noted.

Mayor Kotsev accepted the Embassy's invitation to be the patron of an exhibition in Varna, dedicated to Mykhailo Parashchuk, the Ukrainian sculptor, whose life, social and creative path are closely related to the cultural processes in Bulgaria before and after 1944. His work is the facade decoration of many emblematic buildings in Sofia, including Sofia University, the Defense Ministry and the National Assembly.

The two sides also discussed the possibility of holding a festival of Ukrainian cuisine in the summer in Varna, as well as cooperation in the implementation of thematic events to mark the third anniversary of the beginning of the war.

Ambassador Ilashchuk thanked Mayor Kotsev for the institutional support that the Varna Municipality provides for the integration and rapid adaptation of Ukrainian refugees, as well as for the support for Ukrainian artists and the promotion of Ukrainian cultural heritage.
