MP Atanas Atanassov (Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria) told the press in Parliament Wednesday that he has submitted a question to the Prime Minister in connection with possible Bulgarian operation of a group of Bulgarian citizens who are being tried in London for spying for Russia. "There is information in the news media which gives ground to believe that the spying group was logistically backed in Bulgaria. One Bulgarian media outlet mentions one specific village where the spying group had a logistical base," said Atanassov.

"That is why I am asking the Prime Minister what actions the Bulgarian security services have taken to follow-up on this information and whether a national security breach has been established, whether any information is available about the activity of the group in Bulgarian territory and whether any connection has been established between the group and senior Bulgarian politicians," said Atanassov.

Atanassov quoted a story in The Times which reported a couple of days ago that the spies boasted of having “strong relationships” at the top of the Bulgarian government including President Rumen Radev and Korneliya Ninova.
