The Bulgarian bulk carrier Tzarevna and the Turkish general cargo ship Erdogan Bey collided in the Kattegat Strait between Denmark and Sweden on Thursday night, Bulgaria’s National Transport Investigation Board (NTIB) said on Friday. None of the 16 Bulgarian sailors on board the Tzarevna was reported injured in the incident, the Foreign Ministry in Sofia told BTA.

The operator and the owner of the Tzarevna are Bulgarian, but it is sailing under the Maltese flag, the NTIB said. A technical inspection will probably be conducted to see whether the hulls of the two ships have been damaged.

The cause of the collision remains to be identified. An investigation will be carried out by the Danish maritime authorities as the incident occurred near the Danish island of Anholt.
