Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov convenes Monday a national meeting of the administrative heads of prosecution offices in Bulgaria and the Ministry of Interior. The discussion will focus on intensifying the work of the Public Prosecutor's Office to ensure zero tolerance in countering cases of violence. This was announced by the press centre of the Prosecutor's Office.
The meeting is aimed at ensuring a timely lawful response in accordance with the standards of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the case law of the European Court in Strasbourg, and in compliance with the order of Borislav Sarafov of November 27 in connection with the escalation of cases of violence in recent months.
The national meeting will discuss the necessary effective organizational and other measures to achieve real results in countering crime, which requires a high degree of coordination and cooperation between the prosecution and the Ministry of Interior authorities, especially with the National Police Directorate General, the Directorate General for Combating Organized Crime and the regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior.
In late November, Sarafov ordered the heads of district and regional prosecutor's offices in the country to demand immediate action from the local police authorities in connection with the increasing cases of violence committed on hooligan or discriminatory motives in public places, while driving, as well as domestic violence.
