site.btaMPs to Make Eighth Attempt to Elect Parliament Chair
MPs will make their eighth attempt to elect a chairperson of the 51st National Assembly on Friday. The resumption of Parliament's first session is scheduled for 11 am.
At the previous attempt on Thursday, four candidates were in the running: Raya Nazaryan from GERB-UDF, Silvi Kirilov from There Is Such a People (TISP), Natalia Kiselova from BSP-United Left, and Petar Petrov from Vazrazhdane. Nazaryan and Kirilov advanced to a run-off, but neither secured the necessary votes to be elected.
Nazaryan received 69 votes in favour, 159 votes against, and 10 abstentions. Kirilov received 118 votes in favour, 103 against, and 17 abstentions. TISP requested a re-vote, in which Kirilov got 117 votes in favour, 104 against, and 17 abstentions.
