Burgas Municipality will be able to detect potential pollution risks in the Black Sea habitats through artificial intelligence and water drones. The equipment will be purchased under a project supporting the "blue" transformation of the Black Sea basin - "Blue Gates". The initiative was presented Saturday in the seaside city in the presence of scientists and members of partner organizations from the Eastern Black Sea Development Agency (DOKA) in Turkiye, the  Black Sea Universities Network (BSUN) in Romania, Recep Tayyip Erdogan Universitesi in Turkiye and Odesa National Maritime University, Ukraine.

Information will be shared through a transnational blue economy cluster and a digital hub for virtual research and technology transfer. The aim is to create a transnational cluster investing in the uptake of innovative and advanced technologies, the development of collaborative digital tools and R&D capacity for common solutions. Last but not least, this will increase the sustainability and efficiency of the blue economy sectors in the regions, it was reported during the presentation of the project in Central Park - Burgas.

The project is funded under the INTERREG NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme 2021-2027.

The local administration received approval from the Municipal Council of Burgas to join the project at the end of June this year. The budget with which the seaside city will participate in the implementation of the planned activities is nearly BGN 760,000. The project will be implemented until April 2027.
