In the last year alone, more than 208,000 liters of water, 8,000 kilograms of food products and 21,000 pieces of medical equipment were provided to support people in need, said the State Reserve and War-Time Stocks Agency on the occasion of Sunday's anniversary of the 74th anniversary of the establishment of the State Reserve.
The state reserve was created with the mission of ensuring national security and providing necessary resources in times of disasters, crises and emergencies, the department said. This mission is of strategic importance, especially at times when society is facing various challenges. Over the years, the State Reserve has played a key role in dealing with epidemics, natural disasters and economic crises, providing vital supplies of food, medicine, water and fuel, the Agency also noted.
From flood relief to providing medication during health crises, the institution has been a partner to Bulgarian citizens and government bodies. The mission of the agency remains unchanged since its establishment: to help, provide and be available to the public in times of need.
Three municipalities in a state of emergency received water from the State Reserve in the past year. In August this year the municipalities of Pavlikeni, Smyadovo and Belene received 133,000 liters of bottled drinking water due to permanent drought and reduced flow in water sources, the Agency reported.
