A protest demanding the removal of restrictions on communication and supplies to those detained in refugee centres will take place at noon on Sunday at the Busmantsi Detention Centre Special Home For Temporary Accommodation of Foreigners, said the organizers of the event, The Orion Grid and Food Not Bombs - Sofia, during an online discussion on alternatives to migrant prisons.
During the discussion, problems related to refugee centres, visits, food delivery and others were discussed.
The organizers of the protest demand an end to police violence, a fair investigation of incidents, an adequate system for the submission of complaints by detainees and real access to information about their rights, unconditional access to health care for those housed, the removal of restrictions.
Sunday's demonstration will also demand the closure of refugee centres and their replacement with humane alternatives to detention, such as networks of activist-supported solidarity shelters and community funding programmes that allow local NGOs or host families to sponsor migrants by provide shelter, financial support and help with social inclusion.
