An exhibition entitled Summer Afternoons by the artist Angel Gerdzhikov opened in Burgas on Friday. All the paintings on display were created in the summer, and precisely in the afternoons, when people usually lie down and keep out of the heat while the artist chooses to work.
Although Gerdzhikov is from Plovdiv, most of the paintings in the exhibition were made by the sea, where he likes to spend warm summer days, the artist told BTA. "I think the paintings carry the warmth of those summer afternoons in which they were painted," he said.
"If it was a series, it would be like a crime series, where each series solves a separate case. I rather try to catch the ideas that fly by me like birds and paint them in the moment, because afterwards it's too late. Once you catch the idea of the moment, then all sorts of other crazy things go through my mind," Gerdzhikov noted.
Another common image in his paintings are goats. "If you compare a goat and a sheep, a sheep doesn't have its own opinion and character, while a goat does whatever it decides. You can't discipline it, rather it can discipline you. That's why I like them so much and accordingly I paint them often," he said.
The exhibition can be seen until the beginning of December.
