The mountain hiking conditions are poor, the Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) of the Bulgarian Red Cross told BTA here on Friday.

The weather is cloudy and foggy, with temperatures in the high mountain areas below 0C. A light layer of snow has settled in many areas.

The ski facilities in the resorts are not operational, the MRS said.

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology said that the weather in the mountains will remain mostly cloudy, with fog on the ridges and peaks. Precipitation is expected primarily in the massifs of Southwestern Bulgaria, mainly as snow above approximately 1,500 m.

In the afternoon, cloud cover will begin to break from the west. A moderate west-northwesterly wind will blow. Highs: 3C at 1,200 m, minus 1C at 2,000 m.
