BSP-United Left will support the taxation of banks' windfall profits and the introduction of a tax on concessions, Dragomir Stoynev, a MP from BSP-United Left, told the media here on Tuesday. Stoynev's statement followed a meeting between representatives of BSP-United Left and caretaker Minister of Finance, Lyudmila Petkova, regarding the state of public finances and the 2025 budget.

"We proposed specific measures for the Ministry of Finance to consider and possibly include in the 2025 budget," Stoynev said, adding that they recommend looking into options for taxing capital exports to parent companies.

"This year, we anticipate staying within the 3% deficit, which is commendable, but the challenge lies in the upcoming year," Stoynev remarked. He noted that decisions regarding the financial sector and the budget, made by the National Assembly, are piling up, with the 2025 budget being their primary concern. "Now more than ever, the country requires political stability, as a crisis could truly happen. Without specific measures, the situation could become unmanageable," he added.

Finance Minister Lyudmila Petkova did not address the media following the meeting.

BSP-United Left did not verify if the Finance Ministry's proposals involve raising pension contributions.

When asked if they would attend the meeting with GERB-UDF on Wednesday, BSP-United Left leader Atanas Zafirov said there would be a meeting of the Executive Bureau of BSP, followed by a Coalition Council. "The parliamentary group will then convene, and we will have positions on all the issues you raised," he added.
