site.btaPM Glavchev: Election Commission Issues Are Beyond Caretaker Government's Remit
Actions within section election commissions are beyond the caretaker government’s remit, and such cases are the only ones we have observed so far, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said here on Wednesday, at the start of a meeting of the Council of Ministers. Glavchev's comments were about the October 27 snap parliamentary elections and the concerns raised about possible election violations.
"There is video surveillance in place, which is an accomplishment of the caretaker government. This surveillance has revealed certain facts that the relevant authorities will classify accordingly," Glavchev said.
"Certain groups have the authority to petition the Constitutional Court to annul the elections. If the Constitutional Court finds the evidence compelling, it should take action. [We in] the Executive cannot participate in this, mainly because it would create a conflict of interest. It's important to address any uncertainties," he added.
Glavchev said that both caretaker governments under him have drawn "red lines" based on their oath to uphold the Constitution and laws, guiding all decisions. Only ministers meeting these constitutional standards have been nominated, even at the risk of losing influence.
BTA recalls that President Rumen Radev said on Tuesday that had he been responsible for appointing the caretaker government, the current weakness of the State and the growing influence of oligarchs with political ambitions would not have existed.
Glavchev said that this caretaker cabinet can also add "zero tolerance for corruption" to its existing red lines. "If anyone crosses these red lines, I advise you to take immediate action. If I see a minister crossing these lines, I will immediately propose their replacement to the President."
