Delyan Peevski reacted to the "sanitary cordon" initiative against him with a disparaging press release put out by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms - New Beginning and aimed against Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB). Calling the CC-DB leaders by mock names and calling them "political caricatures", he said that their "sanitary cordon" idea for isolating him was "a bout of political schizophrenia".
"The whole quarrel is because of Boyko Borissov, whom they (CC-DB) wanted to retire", Peevski said, adding that for nine months "these people have been begging me to unite against Borissov because without me they could not defeat him because they are terribly afraid of him". He elaborated that CC-DB offered various "shameful deals on the cabinets, and I am proud that I always refused such deals".
According to Peevski, the most important thing for CC-DB is to have "members of their gang" as Interior Minister, Prosecutor General, Head of the anti-corruption commission, President of the Sofia Appellate Court (SAC) and Chair of the State Agency for National Security (SANS), in order to cover up "everything they have done and plan to do."
He believes that CC-DB are now trying to "destroy the party system and bring in a new saviour". Peevski stressed that the fate of political leaders is not decided in the offices of the National Assembly.
The MRF-New Beginning press release further goes, "Everything they do goes beyond any norm, democratic and legal principles and they will bear responsibility for it. And because of the lies that are being poured on the people of MRF-New Beginning I declare that if they continue like this, by all means of democracy, we will defend our choice and our will."
On October 29 CC-DB co-leader Kiril Petkov called for a "cordon sanitaire" around Delyan Peevski's party. In response to that declaration, on November 2 There Is Such a People (TISP) replied with a declaration of their own, stating that they will support CC-DB's initiative if the latter agrees upon solving the inaccuracies in the official voter lists stemming from deceased voters and people with no voting rights still being on the lists. On November 4 Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov sent two draft decisions with his party's conditions for reaching an agreement with CC-DB on this matter - holding a referendum for preserving the Bulgarian lev and preserving coal-powered facilities.
