Bulgaria will provide EUR 50,000 humanitarian aid to UNICEF in Lebanon, caretaker Deputy Foreign Minister Maria Anguelieva said Thursday at an international conference in support of the people and sovereignty of Lebanon, which was organized at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
Addressing the forum, Anguelieva called for the implementation of Resolution 1701 and supported the diplomatic efforts of France and the US for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. She also stressed the need to address the humanitarian crisis and assist internally displaced persons, as well as the urgency of providing humanitarian access.
The aim of the conference was to contribute to efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the crisis for the safe return of the displaced, to mobilize the international community to meet the needs of the Lebanese people and to express solidarity and support for Lebanon's sovereignty, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said.
The forum was attended by representatives of many countries and international organizations, including EU Member States, G20 countries, countries from the region, the UN, the World Bank, among others.
Resolution 1701 ended the war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006. Since then, it has been the framework defining security dynamics along the Lebanese-Israeli border, The Guardian said.
The UN estimates that Lebanon is currently in urgent need of EUR 400 million euros in humanitarian aid.
