Doctors of the Southwest Hospital, which has branches in Petrich and Sandanski, plan to hold civil disobedience and stage a blockade at Bulgaria's border with Greece to press their demand for higher wages, which they say have not been adjusted for years, the Zashtita National Trade Union said on Wednesday.
The union wrote on its website that doctors' wages at the Southwest Hospital are very low and bonuses are distributed unfairly. It noted that the hospital management shows no understanding of the issue. A meeting was held with Sandanski Mayor Atanas Stoyanov, who undertook to help find solutions to the problems affecting the hospital staff. Talks are also planned with Petrich Mayor Dimitar Brachkov.
The physicians hope that the municipal governments of Petrich and Sandanski, which are in charge of the Southwest Hospital, will help address the problems and avoid extreme measures, Zashtita said.
