site.btaSpecial Operation Neutralizes Group of Alleged Extortioners

In a special operation of the General Directorate for Combating Organised Crime conducted on October 1, a group engaged in extortion of debtors was neutralized, the Interior Ministry reported on Friday. The group allegedly profited from extortion here from early 2022 to October 1, 2024.

The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has indicted seven people. Six of them have been permanently detained in custody, while the seventh is wanted. The arrestants are aged between 33 and 56.

So far, the operation has involved the questioning of 22 witnesses, searches at ten addresses, and the seizure of numerous phones, computers, documents and other items relevant to the investigation. The operation began nearly two years ago.
