National Assembly Chair Raya Nazaryna has approved the lifting of the MP immunity of Dzheyhan Ibryamov based on her duties under the Constitution and Parliament's Rules of Organization and Procedure, the National Assembly's press office said on Thursday evening.

The press release said that the acting Prosecutor General asked Nazaryan to approve the charging and detention of MP Dzheyhan Ibryamov. Under the Constitution, MPs cannot be detained and constituted as accused parties, except for the commission of a publicly prosecutable offence, without authorization by the National Assembly or by its Chairperson when Parliament is not sitting. A permission for detention is not required when an MP has been caught in the act of committing a serious crime. In this case, Parliament is notified immediately, and if it is not sitting, its Chairperson is notified.

All MPs can familiarize themselves with the Prosecutor General's request.

On Wednesday, Dzheyhan Ibryamov, MP of the 50th National Assembly, was detained and his home was searched, BTA learned from his lawyer, Yordan Kirov. Ibryamov is the top-of-the-list candidate of the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms coalition in the 30th multi-member constituency in Shumen for the snap parliamentary elections on October 27.
