A workshop for drying and processing cannabis has been discovered near the western village of Brusen, the Interior Ministry's Sofia Regional Directorate said Thursday.

The police operation started on Wednesday morning and was aimed at countering drug-related crimes on the territory of Etropole Municipality.

Officers from the Etropole police station proceeded to check a car driven by a convicted resident of the coastal city of Burgas. In the car, the law enforcement officers found a sack with two packages in it, containing a total of about 3.200 kg of cannabis, the police explained.

During a search of a property occupied by the man, located in a remote wooded area in near the village of Brusen, the police officers came across a workshop for drying and processing cannabis.

The workshop was concealed in a barn and was equipped with mesh dryers, fans, a weed grinder, an aggregate and a water pump.  

A second car used by the 45-year-old man, parked on a street in Etropole, was also searched. In the car were found two packages with a white crystalline substance, reacting to methamphetamine, with a total weight of about 70 grams.

Officers from the Burgas Police Department assisted in the investigation.

The perpetrator was detained and pre-trial proceedings were initiated under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office in Botevgrad.
