Bulgaria's caretaker Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov participated in an event on the sidelines of the General Debate of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, dedicated to the role of women in peace and security, his ministry said in a press release on Wednesday.

Addressing the forum, Kondov said that Bulgaria gives priority to the full and meaningful participation of women in peace negotiations and conflict resolution processes. He also said that Bulgaria will continue to use multilateral platforms to advocate for stronger global commitments of women to peace and security.

The adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) on Women, Peace and Security declares commitment of governments to fully recognize and support the equal and meaningful role that women play in the prevention and resolution of armed conflicts, in peacebuilding and peacekeeping, in post-conflict reconstruction and humanitarian response, and in all efforts to maintain and promote peace and security at the local, national and international levels.
