On Tuesday, a coalition agreement is to be signed between 20 centre-left political entities and talks are continuing with some of the parties to clarify details regarding joint participation in the upcoming elections, Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) acting chair Atanas Zafirov told a briefing on Sunday at the party's headquarters in Sofia after a meeting of the National Council.

The National Council confirmed the timetable on which the consolidation of the left political space is moving, he said.

The meeting was held in the conditions of a difficult political situation, which reflects on the state of the political forces, Zafirov said.

Regarding the decision of the Sunday decision of the National Council of the BSP, which voted for the expulsion of outgoing chair Korneliya Ninova from the party, Zafirov stressed that the decision was taken with a "clear majority". Georgi Svilenski, Ivan Chenchev and Krum Donchev were also expelled.

"In order to be fully democratic, all proposals were voted on separately. For the exclusion of Ninova there were 105 votes in favour, 16 against and 4 abstentions," he said. "You can see that the speculation about the lack of a quorum and illegitimate decisions is refuted by an impressive majority," Zafirov noted.
