site.btaPM Glavchev Says He Trusts Culture Minister on Controversial Proposal to Present Award to Communist-era Functionary

I trust the expert opinion of Culture Minister Nayden Todorov, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev told journalists on Thursday in connection with a proposal of the Council of Ministers to President Rumen Radev to award communist-era culture minister Georgi Yordanov with the Order of the Balkan Range for his great services in the field of culture and art. The prime minister made his comments before a hearing in the parliamentary committee on European affairs.

According to Glavchev, Georgi Yordanov has been awarded distinctions by other governments with prizes. There was no controversy when this proposal was made, he explained.

Earlier on Thursday there were clashes in the plenary because of a declaration read by Atanas Atanasov on behalf of Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria on the  proposal to award Georgi Yordanov.

According to Glavchev, Georgi Yordanov Momchev has been awarded prizes by other governments. There was no controversy when this proposal was made, he explained.
