site.btaDrug Trafficking Ring Busted in Sofia, Three Arrested

A special police operation was conducted by officers from the Directorate General for Combating Organized Crime on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday. Three people were arrested in the course of the operation against an organized group engaged in trafficking, distribution and possession of drugs.  

Large quantities of different illicit substances, such as cocaine, ecstasy, heroin, amphetamines and marijuana - were seized during searches of five addresses and three motor vehicles. Most of the drugs were found in a high-end property in Sofia, including 230 kg marijuana, 20 kg laced pot, 1 kg cocaine; 7.6 kg amphetamine; 0,550 kg captagon (tablets); 2 kg ecstasy (tablets); 2,000 marijuana seeds; 10 g of heroin. In addition to the narcotics, 3 tubes of a chemical substance for spraying pot, 3 professional vacuum machines, various vacuum materials and an electronic scale were also found.

According to initial estimates, the substances found are worth millions of leva, the exact value is to be established in the course of the proceedings. According to experts, the price of the seized drugs on the black market is many times higher than the prices estimated for the purpose of pre-trial proceedings.

The case materials have been reported to the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office and pre-trial proceedings have been initiated. A prosecutor has ordered the three suspects to be detained for up to 72 hours.

The investigation continues under the supervision of the prosecutor's office, the press release said.
