There Is Such a People issued on Wednesday a statement from the parliamentary rostrum in relation to a statement by North Macedonia's Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, who said that if there is a desire and political will, the negotiating framework for the country's accession to the European Union can be changed.

"Yesterday, once again, the newly elected Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, publicly attacked, in an international setting, Bulgaria, talking about changing the negotiating framework for North Macedonia's European integration and the condition of recognizing Bulgarians as one of the constituent peoples in the basic law of the country. Such rhetoric again raises the level of tension in diplomatic relations between the two countries since Bulgaria gave a rather ill-considered green light to the European integration of our western neighbour", TISP Floor Leader Toshko Yordanov said.

This is another proof that the numerous concessions on the diplomatic scene do not lead to the desired results, he commented. Yordanov argued that Mickoski even dares to pressure Bulgarian MEPs to support his cause for the so-called renegotiation through their membership in common European families.

TISP's Floor Leader said that the violation of human rights, the humiliation of Bulgarian citizens, the attacks on them and their associations, and the increasingly undisguised hate speech clearly show that the political class in North Macedonia has no intention of adhering to the agreements between the two countries and keeping its commitments to defend common European values. "But to be painfully honest, we have to admit that the Bulgarian parliament is also to blame for this behaviour. Because Continue the Change, Democratic Bulgaria, GERB and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms lifted the veto against North Macedonia and unleashed anti-Bulgarian propaganda, violence against our compatriots and outright political insolence," said Yordanov.

Yordanov pointed out that North Macedonia’s Prime Minister has announced that the Bulgarian dictate will not pass as long as he is prime minister and paraphrased his words: "Mickoski, as long as you keep talking about Bulgarian dictates and not respecting the treaties, the so-called state of North Macedonia will never enter the European Union.”
