The Sofia municipal election commission has terminated the powers of the mayor of Sofia's Ilinden borough, Emil Branchevski, after finding that he was the owner and manager of a commercial enterprise in violation of the Local Self-Government and Local Administration Act. A decision to that effect is published on the election commission's website Friday.

Branchevski figures as owner and manager of Clinic For Medical Services Branchevski – Kolev LTD , which was registered in the UK on February 18, 2024.

He took an oath in office on November 13, 2023 and is not supposed to be part of commercial enterprises, regardless of whether they engage in any activity or not. He has a month from stepping in office to withdraw from such participations. In his case, he apparently got registration while holding a public office.

Branchevski has denied any involvement with any commercial enterprise. On June 18, Boris Bonev of Save Sofia, the party that nominated Branchevski said that the registration of the said Clinik for Medical Services in the UK was a forgery. He blames GERB for ordering the forgery.

The election commission decision is appealable within seven days.
