One of the two Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) leaders, Delyan Peevski, greeted the Muslim community in Bulgaria on the occasion of Eid al-Adha ("the Holiday of Sacrifice"), the MRF said in a press release on Sunday.

"Dear Muslim brothers and sisters, I am addressing you in the blessed days of the holy festival of Eid al-Adha. I greet you on this great festival and wish you health, grace and prosperity in all endeavors. In these days that symbolize reconciliation and forgiveness, I wish peace and understanding to all of you and your families. I express my sincere gratitude for the fact that together we were able to achieve very good results in the elections that have just passed and I believe that together we will be able to work towards a better and more secure life for the people of Bulgaria. Happy Eid al-Adha!", Peevski said.

In 2024, the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha is celebrated between June 16 and 19. The Muslim calendar follows the lunar cycles and therefore the holiday has no fixed date. Each year it shifts forward 10 days from the previous year.

*In 2021, Peevski was designated by the US under the Global Magnitsky Act as an oligarch who "has regularly engaged in corruption, using influence peddling and bribes to protect himself from public scrutiny and exert control over key institutions and sectors in Bulgarian society." Peevski is challenging the designation in a US court. His lawyers argue that there is no evidence of any wrongdoing by their client.
