Bulgarian President Rumen Radev will make an official visit to Montenegro at the invitation of his counterpart Jakov Milatovic on June 17, the President's Press Secretariat said.
President Radev and his wife, Desislava Radeva, will be given a formal welcome by President Milatovic and his wife, Milena Milatovic, at Plavi Dvorac in Cetinje, the country's historical and cultural capital. The two presidents will hold a one-to-one meeting and will lead the plenary talks between the official delegations. Radev and Milatovic will give a joint news conference.
In Podgorica, President Radev will meet with Prime Minister Milojko Spajic and Parliament President Andrija Mandic.
The talks will focus on the further deepening and strengthening of bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, as well as on Bulgaria's support for Montenegro's progress towards EU accession.
Bulgaria and Montenegro established diplomatic relations in 2006, the Foreign Ministry said on its website. The two countries have traditionally good relations, characterized by regular high- and top-level political dialogue, as well as by deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest. There are no unresolved or open politically sensitive issues between Bulgaria and Montenegro. The traditionally good cooperation and Montenegro's consistent progress in European integration have made it possible to expand contacts in many new areas. Bilateral relations aim to create prerequisites for increasing trade and tourism flows, expand direct contacts between local authorities and step up cultural and educational exchanges. There is a particular potential for developing contacts in energy and sustainable technology.
