Bulgaria is ready to donate to Ukraine energy equipment from the companies in the Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD group worth BGN 1 million in support of the restoration of the country's production capacities, Bulgarian caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev and caretaker Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov said here on Tuesday. The process of selling the equipment for the Belene Nuclear Power Plant is also at an advanced stage. A corridor for the export of electricity produced in Bulgaria to Ukraine is also under discussion, so that households and the administration can be supported during the winter months, it transpires from a press release of the Government Information Service.

Glavchev and Malinov were in Berlin to take part in the Ukraine Recovery Conference, aimed to mobilize international support for Ukraine's reconstruction, reform and modernization.

Glavchev noted that Bulgaria is working on accelerating the construction of the Vertical Gas Corridor, and state guarantees for its implementation are being discussed. The project is important not only in relation to the replacement of Russian natural gas from January 1, 2025, but also as a sign of solidarity with Kyiv, he said.

Bulgaria's readiness to make a concrete contribution to the reconstruction of Ukraine was the focus of Prime Minister Glavchev's speech during the conference in Berlin. He focused on the nearly USD 1 trillion in damages that Kyiv is suffering because of the unprovoked and illegal full-scale military aggression of the Russian Federation.

Glavchev pointed out that Bulgarian companies are ready to engage in projects to restore power plants, electricity transmission networks and gas infrastructure. Bulgarian businesses also have the capacity to participate in activities related to the construction of transport and water supply infrastructure, construction of residential and public buildings.

Glavchev paid special attention to the extensive environmental damage, which should also have an important place in the reconstruction activities in Ukraine. Bulgaria has also signed a bilateral Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of environmental protection, which states Bulgaria's commitment to work together in sustainable water management, flood protection, waste management, air quality improvement, and nature conservation. The protection and restoration of Ukraine's cultural heritage is another huge challenge. Bulgarian experts can offer much-needed assistance for the restoration and conservation of Ukraine's damaged cultural sites.

Ukraine's partners have not only the will and the ambition, but also the capacity to provide the much-needed decisive support for the country's recovery from the destruction caused by the aggressor, Glavchev said. He described the Ukraine Facility as a powerful tool at the EU's disposal to support Kyiv's long-term reconstruction. The Bulgarian Prime Minister was adamant that this support would continue for as long as necessary, with Ukraine and its institutions taking the lead in defining the immediate concrete objectives.
