Bulgaria is interested in joining as a co-shareholder in the initiative to create a corridor for the transmission of green energy produced in Azerbaijan to Europe. This is what Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said at his meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, as quoted by the Government Information Service. Their talks in Berlin were also attended by Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov. Prime Minister Glavchev reaffirmed Bulgaria's support for the initiative, in which Georgia, Hungary and Romania also participate alongside Azerbaijan. It is yet to be specified which state-owned company will take part in it on the Bulgarian side.

During the talks, the Vertical Gas Corridor was also discussed, for the construction of which two major contracts were signed in early June in Sofia, in the presence of Prime Minister Glavchev and Minister Malinov. Glavchev pointed out that the project will be developed within the framework of the strategic declaration signed between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on increasing the amount of natural gas that should reach European markets from 2027.  This will replace Russian gas supplies. The project will also cement Bulgaria's place on the gas map and serve as a major corridor for the South-North transport of Azeri natural gas to Central European markets.

The upcoming meeting of the Bulgarian-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation in Baku in early July was also discussed at the meeting.  The commission has not met in the last five years and the upcoming meeting is expected to further boost bilateral cooperation.
