Strengthening the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and China in a number of areas of mutual interest was discussed at a meeting here on Wednesday by Vice President Iliana Iotova and the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Bulgaria, Dai Qingli, the President's press service reported. In 2024, Bulgaria and China mark 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The Vice President and the Chinese Ambassador pointed out that there is untapped potential for cooperation and the 2019 declaration on strategic partnership between Bulgaria and China adopted by Presidents Rumen Radev of Bulgaria and Xi Jinping of China is a good basis for deepening bilateral cooperation. At the meeting, they discussed the possibilities for more joint partnerships within the framework of the One Belt One Road initiative and the 14+1 format. Bulgaria is among the first countries to join the One Belt One Road.

Ambassador Dai Qingli expressed hope for the formation of a stable government in Bulgaria after the upcoming elections, which will contribute to creating a favourable environment and predictability for business in Bulgaria. The Vice President and the Chinese Ambassador also discussed the negotiations on direct flights from Bulgaria to China, which will boost tourism and business.

The active work of the Confucius Institute and the Chinese Cultural Centre was highlighted in the field of education and culture.

The war in Ukraine, the need for a peaceful resolution of the conflict and the expectations in this regard related to the upcoming conference in Switzerland were also discussed during the meeting at the President's building.
