site.btaUPDATED Foreign Minister Dimitrov: Investing in Security of Black Sea Region Is Investing in Euro-Atlantic Zone of Peace and Freedom
Investing in the security of the Black Sea region is investing in the Euro-Atlantic zone of peace and freedom in the region and Europe. This is what caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Stefan Dimitrov said during the second conference on security in the Black Sea in the framework of the International Crimea Platform. The conference is jointly organized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence of the Republic of Bulgaria and Ukraine, in partnership with the Centre for Defence Strategies (Ukraine).
For more than two years the world has been witnessing something unthinkable, the Minister said and noted Bulgaria's support for Ukraine.
Dimitrov also noted the high-level peace conference in Ukraine, which Switzerland will host in June.
In his words, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has undermined the international security system and shaken the core of the international legal order. It has also led to major changes in how we evaluate our policies and goals nationally and regionally, but also globally, he said. Most disturbing, however, is the human suffering and grief that we have witnessed daily at levels that we thought were consigned to history. It seems to me that this should be our main concern today, the Minister said.
He noted the empathy of Bulgarians and the practical support to people in need. Bulgaria will continue further with its humanitarian assistance to all those affected by the war, Dimitrov added.
