site.btaParliament to Debate Second Reading Amendments to Higher Education Act

Parliament will debate on second reading amendments to the Higher Education Act on Wednesday, according to the draft agenda published on its website. On January 24, the National Assembly voted unanimously 115 in favour to adopt the amendments on first reading, setting the average salary of lecturers in higher education establishments at no less than 170% of the country's gross average wage for the last 12 months. The revisions also envisage the minimum basic salary for the lowest academic position in state higher education establishments to be no less than 125% of the national gross average wage for the last 12 months. Doctoral students will get grants of no less than 125% of the country's minimum wage.

Parliament will also debate on the amendment and supplementation of the Vocational Education and Training Act.

The MPs will discuss on second reading amendments to the Labour Code related to distance work. Under the revisions, employers would be less liable for an accident at work to which the victim contributed by gross negligence and where, in the case of distance work, the victim has failed to comply with the prescribed rules and standards for health and safety at work.

The Parliament's agenda also includes debates on second reading amendments to the Employment Promotion Act and the Climate Change Mitigation Act.
