Approached by journalists here on Thursday, Continue the Change co-leader Kiril Petkov said he is skeptical that GERB truly wish to reach an agreement with his party. "I have the feeling that mono-performances are made that would lead to potential elections. Today, I heard two [people] talk only about elections, elections, elections, elections, and that they will give us some document on the day of the resignation [of the Government]. There is no logic," he commented.
Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov is expected to tender the Cabinet's resignation on March 6 so that he and Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel can switch places, as agreed between Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) and GERB-UDF when the Government took office in June 2023. Ahead of the rotation, CC-DB unveiled a draft memorandum of agreement with GERB on February 20. GERB first rejected it, then said they would consider it but changed their mind again. On February 27, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said that his party is preparing a coalition agreement he would expect CC-DB to sign.
Asked whether he wants the coalition agreement to be drafted jointly with GERB, Petkov told journalists on Thursday that he sees no reason to wait until March 6 for someone to draft a document, "the way we have been waiting in the last four weeks for Mariya Gabriel to give her assessments of the ministers". "As if this date [March 6] has caught them by surprise, when we knew about it nine months ago," he added. In his words, now there is a new date: March 8, after the resignation. "Don't you find it strange to ask to renegotiate everything in two days, from the resignation to March 8, but to not hold a single formal conversation in the last nine days and to not even reply to our invitation sent on Monday?" Petkov asked.
