Speaking on Thursday at a joint briefing with his counterpart Mark Rutte at the Council of Ministers of the Netherlands, Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said, “We are very grateful for the support of the Netherlands for all European priorities of our government: Schengen, the euro area, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). These are our priorities on which we are working very closely with our European partners.”
Bulgarian PM Nikolay Denkov is on a one-day visit to The Hague together with Defence Minister Todor Tagarev. The two prime ministers are discussing issues of bilateral interest and the European agenda, including security issues in the European Union. The talks also covered key priorities for Bulgaria, such as its Schengen entry by land this year and its membership of the euro area from January 1, 2025.
“The Netherlands is the leader among the countries that support us on European issues. Our country wants to be useful to our partners in Europe. That is why we have been working very hard in recent months to strengthen NATO's eastern flank. We are developing our defence forces, we are developing cooperation with our neighbours - Romania and Turkiye, where NATO forces are deployed,” Denkov said. He added that he and Prime Minister Mark Rutte had discussed how this cooperation could be strengthened in the coming months and years.
Denkov also spoke about Bulgaria's providing humanitarian aid and support to hundreds of refugees from Ukraine, and helping with military aid.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister pointed out that the Netherlands is a very good partner of Bulgaria and expressed confidence that in the coming months and years the two countries will continue to work together.
