The existence of a Russian scheme for Bulgarian citizenship for people from former USSR countries and Russia is an unheard of breach in Bulgaria's and the EU's national security, Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) floor leader Delyan Peevski was quoted as saying in a party press release on Wednesday.
The existence of the scheme was alerted by Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) co-floor leader Atanas Atanasov and a number of media investigations. These data should be immediately investigated by Bulgaria's intelligence services, the Interior Ministry and the Prosecution Service, the press release says.
Peevski says that he will thus refer to the Acting Prosecutor General, the Secretary General of the Interior Ministry and the head of the State Agency for National Security, applying all public data about the Russian scheme - interviews, journalistic investigations and publications. "As early as tomorrow I will propose to my colleagues from the Euro-Atlantic majority the creation of a parliamentary committee to investigate all the facts and circumstances related to the 'Bulgarian passport factory', at what levels the breach in our country's national security," says Peevski, quoted in the message.
