site.btaUPDATED Bulgarian Farmers' Union among European Agricultural Organizations That Demand Measures Against Unlimited Imports from Ukraine

Six associations representing farmers and producers in the sugar, grain/oilseed, poultry and egg sectors have sent letters to the agriculture ministers of all EU member states, said the Bulgarian Farmers'Union in a press release. 

They expressed strong concern about the impact of unrestricted imports from Ukraine and the need to highlight to the EC the need to adapt the next autonomous trade measures for Ukraine accordingly. The letters were also supported by the Bulgarian Farmers' Union, which is a member of the European organization of agricultural producers COPA - COGECA.

The six associations include COPA - COGECA, the Association of Poultry Processors and Poultry Trade in the EU (AVEC), European Association of Sugar Manufacturers (CEFS), Confederation of European Maize Producers (CEPM), European Beet Growers (CIBE), European Union of Wholesale in Eggs, Egg-Products, Poultry and Game (EUWEP).

The associations are proposing the establishment of a system to ensure that the destination of all consignments of Ukrainian agricultural products is determined before they enter the EU, as well as the introduction of a system to ensure that Ukrainian products reach that destination and do not end up elsewhere. They also want to introduce import thresholds for each agricultural commodity subject to trade liberalization based on the annual or quarterly average value for the combined years 2021 and 2022.
