Desislava Atanasova and Borislav Belazelkov Will Be Sworn In as Constitutional Judges

An oath-taking ceremony will take place for the newly elected constitutional judges Desislava Atanasova and Borislav Belazelkov at 11 am on Friday at the Constitutional Court.

They are expected to take the oath in the presence of the Parliament Speaker, the President and the heads of the Supreme Court of Cassation and Supreme Administrative Court.

Atanasova and Belazelkov were elected as judges to the Constitutional Court from the parliamentary quota on January 19. Atanasova received 159 votes and Belazelkov 154.

On January 23 President Rumen Radev challenged the election before the Constitutional Court and urged for the oath-taking ceremony to be postponed until the ruling of the court. The Constitutional Court has opened a case on the President’s motion and at the request of MPs of Vazrazhdane, There Is Such a People (TISP) and BSP for Bulgaria over the election of constitutional judges from the parliamentary quota.
