site.btaAssistant Professors' Minimum Monthly Pay Set at BGN 2,516

The government decided that the minimum salary for the lowest academic position in state higher education institutions will increase to BGN 2,516 retroactively from April 1, 2024. The increase is by BGN 416.

Under a mechanism set out in the Higher Education Act the minimum salary for the lowest academic position represents 125% of the national average gross salary over the last 12 months for which data has been published by the National Statistical Institute.

The same decree also sets out the minimum salaries of researchers and experts in higher education institutions and research organizations. The lowest salary becomes BGN 2,013 for positions requiring higher education and BGN 1,610 for positions requiring secondary education.
