Justice Minister Atanas Slavov will participate in an informal meeting of the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council, the first one within the framework of the Belgian presidency. It will take place on 26 January 2024 in Brussels., said the press centre of the line ministry on Thursday.

The agenda of the EU justice ministers will include a discussion of the fight against organized crime related to drug trafficking. Effective countering of organized crime was the subject of active discussions during both the Swedish and Spanish Presidencies of the Council.

Ministers will exchange views on the added value of a network of prosecutors and judges from Member States with practical experience in breaking up criminal networks, as well as on judicial cooperation with third countries, in particular with non-cooperative jurisdictions.

The efforts of previous EU Council presidencies to permanently include the issue of improving conditions in places of deprivation of liberty and their impact on mutual trust between member states will also be discussed.

The Presidency puts up for discussion issues related to the possibilities of strengthening mutual trust between the EU countries regarding the execution of judgments and the facilitation of judicial cooperation for the purposes of such execution.
