An increase in the values of fine dust particles was indicated by data from the National System for Environmental Monitoring at the Executive Environment Agency (ExEA), which informs the population about the air quality.

On Tuesday, at 2 pm, in a large part of the city, the average day-night values of FPC10 were over 130 μg/m3., a BTA check showed. The average daily norm is 50 µg/m3.

Dust is a major air pollutant.

The reason for the exceedances of the average daily rate of FPC10 is usually the use of solid fuel for domestic needs and emissions from road transport in combination with unfavorable weather conditions.

Sofia Municipality called on citizens to limit the use of private cars, especially in view of the upcoming increased traffic at the end of the working day. If possible, trips should be made by public transport, ride sharing, cycling or walking.

The Municipality reminds those using solid fuel for domestic heating to switch, if possible, to alternative heating, as well as to avoid using an open fuel fireplace on Tuesday, in case it is a second heat source.

As always in case of excesses of pollution with fine dust particles, the Sofia Inspectorate undertakes extraordinary inspections to control industrial, transport and household sources of pollution and, if necessary, involves representatives of other institutions and departments for the inspections.
