Improving the healthcare system through innovation was discussed in Davos by Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Michel Demare, President of AstraZeneca, the press service of the Council of Ministers said on Wednesday.
The transition from disease treatment to preventive healthcare is a priority for Bulgaria, Denkov stressed. Demare pointed to the company's anti-smoking and chronic kidney disease screening programmes as good examples in prevention.
The Prime Minister briefed Demare on the e-prescription system introduced in Bulgaria and how it will limit the misuse of funds for medicines and treatment. Consequently, this will open up the opportunity to channel more funds for innovations in healthcare.
It is innovation that offers hope for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases, Demare pointed out, according to the government press office.
