Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel met with United States Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien on January 16 during the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Foreign Ministry reported. The discussion focused on Bulgaria's strategic dialogue with the United States and common approaches to global and regional issues.

Gabriel said: "Support, coordination and a joint response to challenges are the watchwords. I am glad that, as allies and partners, we respond together to regional and global challenges."

Gabriel and O'Brien looked at Bulgaria's strategic position in NATO concerning security in the Black Sea region and the European perspective of the Western Balkans. Gabriel highlighted the Bulgaria-US memorandum of understanding on countering foreign manipulation of information and its key role amid intensifying hybrid attacks and disinformation.
