Bulgaria's Parliament on Thursday passed on first reading amendments to the Weapons, Ammunition, Explosives and Pyrotechnic Articles Act increasing from 50 to 100 rounds the ammunition for pistols and revolvers of a barrel length not exceeding 30 cm that their licensed owners can keep and store.

The revisions were moved by the GERB-UDF Parliamentary Group.

The MPs also adopted on first reading other revisions to the same Act, proposed by Vazrazhdane, which exempt natural persons aged under 65, who meet all conditions necessary for the initial issuance of a licence to acquire, keep, bear and use firearms and ammunition from specifying or proving reasonable grounds for a renewal of such licence when it applies to the same weapon for which the original licence was issued.

Vazrazhdane further propose to standardize the manner for the acquisition of ammunition for all categories of firearms for civilian purposes and to ease the administrative burden on the Interior Ministry's Service for Control of Weapons Endangering the General Public.
