Customs officers seized 44,000 cigarettes (2,200 packs) at the Danube Bridge 2 border checkpoint near Vidin - Calafat in November, the Customs Agency reported. This is the largest amount found in a single case by customs officials from the Ruse Customs Directorate.

The excise goods were discovered during a thorough inspection in the cargo area of a truck. The truck traveled to France and was driven by a Bulgarian citizen.
All 2,200 packs of cigarettes were seized. The driver has been fined.

Since the beginning of the year, in 35 cases, customs officers at the Danube Bridge 2 border checkpoint near Vidin-Calafat have seized 253,693 boxes or over 4.90 million pieces of contraband cigarettes, 400 grammes of smoking tobacco and 950 kg of chewing nicotine pouches, shows Customs Agency data.
