Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Wednesday about the derogation for Russian oil, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said reactions that GERB wants to topple the government were nonsense.

On Tuesday GERB proposed that the derogation for Russian oil be waived entirely as of January 1 2024 and not in two phases from January 1 and March 1 2024, as was agreed at a meeting between GERB-UDF  and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms with Finance Minister Assen Vassilev.

"After a European commissioner said that the derogation should promptly enter the agenda of Parliament we did that and I hope that it will pass. Afterwards we heard reactions that GERB wants to topple the government which are complete nonsense," said Borissov.

"GERB and Continue the Change agree that the derogation should take effect but they say it should happen from March 1 because then Mariya Gabriel will be prime minister and the responsibility will fall on GERB," Borissov said. "If it takes effect on January 1, the mighty Denkov may fold and bear the responsibility alone, which is again nonsense, because since we have proposed it, I don’t see how we will go back on our word. But in effect our colleagues from Continue the Change think that if something bad happens during these two months it will be a problem for them but if it happens from March 1 it won't be a problem for them," said the GERB leader.

Of the case with the Pirogov emergency hospital, Borissov said that GERB are against the replacement of the director of the hospital.
