Following are comments by the leading mayoral candidates after the close of the polls in Bulgaria's local elections on Sunday:

Sofia

Vassil Terziev (Continue the Change Ö Democratic Bulgaria and Save Sofia): I am grateful to everyone who voted for a nice, European, clean, orderly and green city, where there are no 'second-class people' and 'second-class neighbourhoods. We are working for Sofia. We are seeking solutions for all the citizens of Sofia, and we are not positioning ourselves against any other candidate. I also thank my entire campaign.

Vanya Grigorova (BSP-led coalition): We took the first step, which is the most important thing, we brought into focus the problems of working people, of the ordinary person. We have the will to go all the way, and we will do it.

Deyan Nikolov (Vazrazhdane): This is our first major local election. What matters most is that we will have a substantial group in the Sofia Municipal Council. I hope that through it we will be able to exercise control and push through solutions that we think are good for the city. Let us first see who will reach the runoff, we will decide [whom to back] based on this.
