Chief of Defence Admiral Emil Eftimov will participate in the two-day meeting of the European Union Military Committee, which starts in Seville, Spain, on October 17, the Ministry of Defence press service reported on Tuesday. The forum is held as part of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The meeting will discuss issues related to the implementation of the EU's strategic defence objectives and other topical issues on the Common Security and Defence Policy agenda arising from the dynamic security environment. The readiness for the introduction of rapid deployment teams as an EU instrument for a timely response to crisis situations, as well as the further development of the command and control system for EU-led missions and operations are also on the agenda. Emphasis will be placed on the possibilities for contributing to Ukraine's security in the longer term.

The forum participants will discuss the revised package of EU priorities for the development of defence capabilities, which is to be endorsed by the defence ministers in November. The meeting will also address the current deteriorating security situation in the Sahel.

On Thursday, the EU chiefs of defence will observe the MILEX 23 military exercise at Naval Station Rota.
