A new committee in Parliament will oversee the spending of EU funding if a proposal submitted Thursday is pushed through. The proposal was moved by Boyko Borissov of GERB-UDF, Atanas Atanassov of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) and Delyan Peevski of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.

Now the spending of EU funding is controlled by a sub-committee. It is headed by Denitsa Nikolova (GERB-UDF) and has five members.

The proposal to upgrade it to a full committee was prompted by a clash between GERB and CC-DB over the money to be spent under the territorial just transition plans for the coal regions on Wednesday. It transpired that the matter was discussed between the two parties later on Wednesday and the two agreed to iron out the differences.
