An appellate court in Sofia Tuesday put former gambling mogul and oligarch Vassil Bojkov under house arrest. He was remanded in custody upon return from the United Arab Emirates on August 25, to face charges in an organized crime group case related to his gambling business.
During the brief court hearing on the appeal of his remanding, he asked the court to release him on bail or put him under house arrest. It took the court about an hour to decide and order that he be released from remand and put under house arrest where he will be monitored with a GPS bracelet.
Former gambling mogul and oligarch Vassil Bojkov returned to Bulgaria from Dubai on Friday. He arrived in Sofia by air after announcing earlier in the day in a Facebook post that his flight would be landing around 3:30 pm.
