The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Health, Prof. Kostadin Angelov, asked the Ministry of Interior and the State Agency for National Security (SANS) to carry out checks in companies that exported medicines amid a shortage of medicines in the country. In a Facebook post about his alert to law enforcement agencies, Angelov said some of the medicines in question were life-saving.

The Committee on Health has found that the shortages are mainly due to parallel exports from Bulgaria, he added. "There is no country in the world that cannot cope with the parallel export of medicines from its own territory, as long as it genuinely wants it," Kostadin Angelov added.

In the alert to the Minister of the Interior Kalin Stoyanov and to the Chairman of SANS, Plamen Tonchev, Prof. Angelov asks that drugs exported between January 1 and July 31, 2023 are checked by days, quantities and companies.

The list of medicines published in his profile, which was provided by the Executive Agency for Medicines, includes reports and data on missing insulins, low molecular weight heparins, human immunoglobulin against hepatitis B, etc.

During its last meeting, the Committee on Health obliged the Health Minister to provide it with data on the missing medicines every Wednesday of the week.
